Marcus Hall Commended for Architectural Ingenuity
The George and Judy Marcus Hall for the Liberal and Creative Arts was recently featured in an article by The Architect’s Newspaper.
The article complimented the building’s use of open and flexible space, which balanced both student and program needs. The new building puts students’ broadcasts in the public view, using glass to bring transparency to production spaces. The building’s principal architect notes that this is a stark contrast from the previous location of the studios in the Creative Arts basement, which the author referred to as a “bunker-like, perfunctory concrete Brutalist box.”
Marcus Hall is the first new academic building to be constructed on SF State’s campus in the last 25 years. The building’s design focuses on innovation and collaboration, while state-of-the-art technology prepares students for industry jobs. Mark Cavagnero, founder of the firm which designed the building, said, “I hope this new building inspires students and provides them with a space to learn, experiment, and create.”
