BECA Alum Leon Watkins Featured on KRON4

Leon Watkins, BECA alum and co-founder of The Walking Ghosts of Black History, sat down with KRON4 to discuss a new exhibit aboard the USS Hornet. The exhibit highlights the contributions of African Americans to the United States military and is now a permanent part of the USS Hornet Museum.

Despite a long history of serving in the military, of the 3,530 Medals of Honors awardees, only 92 have gone to African American service members. Aiming to bring light to the long-time contributions of African Americans to the military, the exhibit features African American Medal of Honor recipients, African Americans who have had outstanding achievements in the military, as well as the contributions of African Americans to NASA’s space program.    

The exhibit is part of Leon and co-founder Larry Thompson's larger project, The Walking Ghosts of Black History. The non-profit is dedicated to providing the inquisitive public with comprehensive, reliable, and accurate information concerning the history of African Americans in the United States and people of the world ancestry in other regions of the world. It is the aim of the founders and sponsors to foster understanding through knowledge in order to generate constructive change in our society.
