Casey Fellows

The Peter and Rosemary Casey Executive Fellows program connects BECA students with television writers, producers and executives. By supporting guest speakers, interview panels and workshops, this fund provides students with invaluable opportunities to network with leading industry professionals and develop their skills and knowledge of the television industry.

 

Writing Careers in Television & the Entertainment Industry

Three writers from the upcoming Marvel/Disney+ series Echo, joined BECA Professor Bria Howse in a Spring 2022 open Zoom forum hosted by BECA 200: Introduction to Electronic Communication. The panel answered faculty and student questions about a range of topics, including strategies for getting your foot in the door, tips on writing compelling scripts, and the importance of diversity and representation in writers' rooms.

 

Marion Dayre: Echo head writer. Also known for her work as a writer for Better Call Saul, The Act, and Shantaram.

Shoshannah Stern: An actress and writer, known for Jericho, The Hammer, and Echo.

Rebecca Roanhorse: A speculative fiction writer, known for Star Wars: Resistance Reborn, Race to the Sun, and Echo.

 

 

 

Adam Mansbach

Adam Mansbach is an author, screenwriter, satirist, and activist whose Netflix screenplay Barry was nominated for an Independent Spirit Award and an NAACP Image award. In an interview in front of a studio audience, recorded by students in BECA 415: Advanced Television Production Workshop in Fall 2021, MA student Callie Lawson-Freeman spoke with Adam about how he began his career as a novelist and then expanded his storytelling to script writing.

 

 

 

Kira Snider

Kira Snyder is a television writer and producer, best known for her work on The Handmaid's Tale, The 100, Alphas, and Eureka. In Fall 2019, Kira joined BECA Professor Ashley Larson in an interview in front of a studio audience, recorded by the students in BECA 415: Advanced Television Production Workshop to discuss her work on these hit television programs and approaches for building a career in television.

 

 

 

Heather Marion (aka Marion Dayre)

In Fall 2018 Heather Marion, then a writer for the hit AMC series Better Call Saul, spent the day with BECA students and faculty. BECA MA student Bria Howse interviewed her in front of a studio audience to learn about her experiences in the Better Call Saul writers' room.

 

 

 

Brent Stranathan

BS Vice President of Broadcast Distribution, Brent Stranathan, spent two days with BECA students and faculty in Fall 2016. Graduate students in BECA 750: Seminar in Developing and Funding Productions for Electronic Media produced a video about his visit. He discussed how technology is changing the broadcast industry and what media students can expect as they launch their careers.
