Students can take advantage of the many resources available through the Department of Broadcast and Electronic Communication Arts (BECA).

Labs and Studios

Studios 1 (CA 128) and 2 (CA 126) are full television studio facilities, complete with a counterweight grid systems, control booths, and multi camera set ups. Studio 3 (CA 36) is a smaller TV space including a multi camera set up and a green screen. Studios are teaching spaces, but may be used by students for student projects and organizations with departmental approval.

Audio recording spaces are located in CA 42, 43, and 44 and with posted hours (none for summer) with editing labs in CA 40 and 41 (also posted hours – no summer hours). KSFS Radio is a fully functional radio station, featuring booths for streaming and mixing as well as a podcasting booth locating in CA 114.

The Video Editing Lab is located in CA 200, supporting all software primarily used by the department including the Adobe Creative Suite, ProTools, and Final Cut Pro (also available with posted hours – none for summer).

Equipped with the latest Adobe and other software to help BECA students create professional, cutting-edge work for their classes and reels. The library hours even accommodate students during evenings and weekends.

Student and Professional Groups

If you’re looking for a way to make friends and to learn more about the electronic media industry, you should join College Students in Broadcasting (CSB), the Department of BECA’s student organization. This vital organization sponsors speakers and other activities.

The department also has an active student chapter of the Audio Engineering Society (AES).

The National Association of Hispanic Journalists (NAHJ) is another group for students to get involved in.

Schedule of Classes

To ensure BECA students get the courses they need and to help them plan their schedules each semester, the department posts the latest course schedule. Be sure to plot your BECA graduation plan early.
