Dr. Jiyoung Cha wins Top Paper Award

Dr. Jiyoung Cha, Associate Professor of the Broadcast and Electronic Communication Arts Department, received the Top Paper Award from the Korean American Communication Association (KACA) – Korean Foundation for International Cultural Exchange (KOFICE) Joint Conference, which is sponsored by South Korea’s Ministry of Culture, Sports, and Tourism (MTSC).

Her paper investigates how entrepreneurship orientation moderates the effects of conventional project quality signals on media crowdfunding success and provides insights into how media entrepreneurs optimize content strategies to access needed financial resources and to bring about social reforms. 

This August, Dr. Cha also attended the Association for Education in Journalism and Mass Communication (AEJMC) Conference to present her paper and participate in a panel. Her paper investigates the credibility of social media as a news channel. Additionally, Dr. Cha served as a moderator and panelist for a panel on Business Models of Global Video Streaming Platforms to discuss competition among video streaming platforms, their business models and competitive strategies, and how the emergence of over-the-top (OTT) platforms affects local television content providers as well as local streaming services on a global scale.

Dr. Cha had several leadership roles in the Media Management, Economics, and Entrepreneurship Division (MMEE) of the AEJMC for the past several years, and served as the Head of the MMEE Division for 2020-2021.
