Dr. Reist currently serves as the BECA graduate coordinator. Her research and teaching focus on the relationship between evolving media technologies and creativity, culture, politics and the environment.

Nancy "Sami" Reist earned a B.S. in Wildlife Management in 1979 at Humboldt State University, an M.A. in Speech communication in 1983 at Humboldt State University, and a Ph.D. in SpeechCommunication at the University of Minnesota in 1988.

She joined the Broadcast & Electronic Communication Arts Department of San Francisco State in 1987 and is currently serving as graduate coordinator. She chaired the University Tenure and Promotion committee from 2008-2010.

Reist studies and teaches classes in environmental communication, media theory, and the social uses and effects of communication technologies. She worked with students to produce educational environmental installations and events in the Virtual World from 2007 until the world closed in the spring of 2010.
