Death of Art France

Death of Art France

Professor Emeritus John Hewitt writes with some sad news.

I just had a call from Joan France in North Carolina to say that long-time BECA professor Art France had died on Saturday. He was a wonderful guy with a great sense of humor and was a tireless teacher. Even after he left the university, he ran a free workshop for minority students in the East Bay to teach video production and journalism.

I will miss him greatly.
And I have copied his obit here.

Arthur Lloyd France, 78,peacefully passed on to eternal rest on December 6, 2008, in Raleigh, NC

GatorSports Play-by-Play Simulcasts Return to SFSU

BECA 650 Sports Broadcasting Class brings live play-by-play sports coverage of Gator Athletics back to SFSU. This live sports coverage is made possible in part with funding from the BECA 1000 campaign.

BECA Lecturers Jennifer Vaughn and Val Sakovich (also of Academic Technology) worked hard to make simulcasts happen this semester. This project required collaboration from units across the university, including Creative Arts Technical Services, The Athletic Department, and Academic Technology.

BECA Professor Plays in SFSU Handbell Choir

BECA Professor Plays in SFSU Handbell Choir

There she was - the media lawyer and BECA faculty member - holding two bells with tie-dyed, green-and-red gloves and looking studiously down at music as she stood with eight other musicians in an old court room on the second floor of the original San Mateo County Courthouse. Professor Miriam Smith and the rest of the SFSU Handbell Choir played a concert in the old courthouse - now the county's historical museum - in Redwood City on December 6th. What a delightful concert it was, too, with holiday music from England, Poland, Russia, France and the U.S.!
